Why women?
I have noticed that so far all my writing has been from a female perspective. Most obviously this is because it is from that view point that I have always understood life and its surroundings. It is disconcerting to me that I could be disadvantaged by my gender, something I had no personal control over, although I am sure should it have been possible I would still have chosen to become a woman. This is another catalyst for my female writing. I am soon to become 1 and at this stage of life I feel I am really making the transition to woman from girl. This is not altogether pleasing to me and causes as much stress as celebration especially since we are all expected to remain looking 14 just like the models we aspire too. I have experienced an eating disorder, a particularly female domain, and feel that this has made me acutely aware and resentful of the aesthetic ultimatums dished up to women today. I am angry with society for reducing young ladies to clothes horses designed by the fantasies of men. I resent those who criticise women for excelling men in their own domain.
