Ross Lovegrove is a designer he was asked to create a new bottle for Ty Nant bottles water company. This was for them to get into the mass market like Tesco's. Their bottles are blue /red are seen in many films and programmes. His design of the new bottle was to represent the fluidity of a mountain stream hence the bottle has the look and feel of rippling water when the bottle is filled with water. When it is empty it also has the benefit of being recycled by two sting it and it folds down into a compact shape for the ease of disposal. He tends to make his designs out of material that is recyclable.

Jeff Koons The Puppy
This is a brief introduction as to what the essay is about. It is to look at the art work The Puppy of Jeff Koons in a formal nature of this piece, the conceptual nature and why I found it interesting or challenging to me. This is a modern day piece of contempory art of the last fifteen years.
This piece of art was constructed in the forecourt of an eighteenth century castle in Germany. Its like a big guard dog in front of the castle standing guard over the treasures within. For this exhibition Jeff Koons transformed his white terrier, a vase that was used for flowers which is very shiny on the surface was made in 11 made of white polychromed wood sculpture into a giant 40'-6" topiary with 0,000 living plants. The irrigation system used at that time didn't work properly for the mouth of the puppy which made it look as if the puppy was drooling. The plants were used to give it the texture of the fur of the puppy these were in the forms of various colours, shades of green, red, white pinks and blues. The construction resembles a puppy dog and the plants make the puppy look all soft and warm and cuddly texture. This is helped by the use of the colours to give it depth and shade. The white gives it the elusion of light reflecting of it.
According to Jeff Koons it is of "love, warmth and Happiness" this piece is a triumph of scale, colour and materials.

The use of the plants is significant to this work for the reason that they are short lived as this puppy was not created to last for a specific amount of time. It changes over the weeks and months as the plants begin to die of giving the feeling that what looks good on the surface has always this underlying decaying inside which would ultimately leave the skeletal structure of the puppy behind. This then gives the viewer the stark reality that things don't always last forever. Things that look all soft and cuddly don't always end up staying soft and cuddly. There is always a hard cold as steel core, which the skeletal structure of the puppy is made of.
Jeff Koons is renowned for his very glitzy art works. "Throughout the 0's, Koons interest in the eternal perfection of his art gradually encompassed the moral realities of emphemerality and circularity. The temporal splendour of puppy (1), his fifty foot high dog topiary rendered entirely in seasonal flowers (17,000 of them)".
This could also have a more moral theme that people who buy pets e.g. dogs, don't stay in this form of a soft and cuddly playful nature that they do grow up to be adult dogs which don't always remain playful and friendly depending on the way they were treated and brought up. Some people then can't cope with this and get rid of these animals and replace them with another puppy which the whole process is then repeated time and again.
This then brings to mind that this structure is a puppy which is immature like a small child and the steel structure is the adult person and what people might grow up like whether emotional or physical they could then become hard like the steel structure or soft like the plants and the wool.
This piece is interesting to me because I find if appealing to the eye and because it is a puppy, which everyone adores. It is also very imposing wherever you look out of whatever window you could see this as it is so large. It is also interesting to think that the artist has been able to create a large puppy using plants which give it a feel of texture and soft folds of the skin and fur as if it is a living thing and soft and cuddly to the feel, that the plants structure itself gives the feeling of fur. The main appeal for this is that the artist created this piece to give enjoyment and a bit of fun for the public adults as well as children as it is total humorous extravagance and lush with plants. He is well known for his highly glitzy and extravagant works of art and has not taken it seriously. This piece was public art funded it now resides Bilbao in Spain in the Gubbenheim museum.
To conclude this essay although I find this piece interesting I also find it a bit pointless to create a structure that is so large and doesn't last except that now this has been made into one that is dismantled easier and with water irrigation system were as the original didn't have any and can be taken anywhere in the world Jeff Koons created this to give others a bit of happiness to there lives. It seems to me that with the flowers dying off that people of this day an age are to easily led by change fads and consumerism for thing change far to fast and don't last as long as they should and are easily discarded. There are no political or historical context to this art work and only social being that it was made to please the public. This piece is both a sculpture and a vase consistent with Jeff Koons playful relationship to art and functionality, the puppy is both a whimsical pleasure and a serious piece of art sculpture.
