My Last Glimpse of Life

It was a busy day, just like every other. My friends and I were doing what any other teenager does best, hang around. We were loafing around at the corner of the block talking about what to do for the day. Of course we were cutting school, it's just too boring to sit in one room for forty minutes. Just listening to some person we don't know lecture us on what we so called need to know for life, how can we trust them? Also how do they know what we need to know in life, they are only teachers and not everyone will become a teacher in life? Besides, our attention spans only last for like six minutes these days, maybe even less. But anyway, that is not the point of the matter. We decided to cut a day of school and do something fun for a change, but this was one day we wouldn't forget. We definitely had no fun that day, as a matter of fact no one did. It was a Friday, the end of the school week. The date was a special one, March 15, 00. It was the Ides of March, something I actually remembered from one of my teachers. It was a nice day outside; spring seemed to be creeping behind winter this year like the sun setting on a beautifully colored sky. One day it was nice and warm, and the next it was freezing cold, but today was different. The day before it was warm as well and today seemed to be about the same. After about five minutes, we had finally decided what to do. It took long enough, when you're in a city as big as Manhattan you have to have something to do. We were going to a movie theater and then going shopping around the town. Sounded good to me, it was better then going to school. Oh yeah, I almost forgot I skipped school because my English project was due today, of course I didn't do it. So we went to a huge movie theater, and couldn't decide what movie to watch. I guess you could see by now that my friends are very indecisive, that's what happens when you do nothing but school all day you don't what to do when your not in it. While they were busy in dispute with what movie to watch, I shouted out Time Machine. They agreed and went to watch the movie. It was a good movie in my opinion, I don't know about theirs but I think they thought the same thing. After the movie we went to Times Square, the place of hubbub in this already noisy city of Manhattan. We went to almost every store we saw, we even went to the TRL building to watch some of this well-known show on MTV. It really wasn't a good idea but we didn't care if the cameras saw us.

At three o'clock we thought it was time for a break, so we went to rest on some benches, but we left Times Square and went down by the bay. As we were talking, a noise we heard. A whizzing sound, we didn't know where it was coming from. It was so quiet at first, but gradually got louder. Oh no, why is everybody screaming, what's going on? That is what I heard from someone standing by me. My friends and I joined the confusion and soon I was directed to the sky. At first a bright ray from the sun was gleaming in my eye, but it didn't take long for me to see what everyone was scared of. I too became scared like everyone else, but it all was too late. I wished I had stayed in school because maybe then I would have been safer, or maybe not. I mean there is a way underground from the school, but I'm sure everyone wasn't going to get there in time. All my fears had suddenly appeared before me, my whole life flashing before my eyes. It had to be happening to everyone else as well because we all had that blank look as we stared at the sky. Damn terrorists, now all I can think of is whether there is a heaven or a hell. If there is which one will I go to? I mean I just cut school and disobeyed my parents, last I remember that is not helping to go where I want to go. Well whatever there is after, I would soon find out. As the rest of my life flashed I finally came back to consciousness. It was actually all over. I couldn't believe it could happen so fast, and to me of all people, why? When all my questions were finally over, I took a last glimpse of everything I knew. Everything I cared for about to be gone, friends, family, possessions, and life. As I saw the rush of destruction coming all I could find myself to do was stare...
