William Forester (Sean Conery) is a great writer and has but just one book out at this time that is in the movie in witch he try's to inspire a teen to go with his feelings on how he writes. Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) is about 17 and has a great gift, the ability to write and write good. Jamal has a problem, he is stuck in a position where the truth hurts him or his friendship. This problem is to weather to go to a privet school, witch he was ask to go to because of the test scores he had. In this school there are the rich and snooty people who's parents have lots of money and they enjoy the spot light. Jamal has to "shadow" a girl by the mane of Claire Anna Paquin), whose dad is head of the school comity. She help him got where he need to go and they seem to have a good retaliation ship. He a new school is hard but Jamal seem to do aright but for one class, Prof. Crawford (F. Morray Abraham) which has a reputation of have kids out of his class if they disagree with this authority or reasoning . With school in a progress Jamal's next task is to make the basket ball team. Once again there is a rival that will not have this and has to "challenge " him in the form of how they both play. That doesn't work because of a dumb foul that the other person caused they had to shoot free-through tat would determine the laps they would run, they got to 50 and the coach was impressed but still disgusted with the both of them. With all this in mind the next step in Jamals life was to get the writing out on the paper and out of his mind. This is ware William Forrester comes in to play, with his writing ability at hand he was at a high level of wisdom over Jamal. Now Jamal has the person he need to go beyond the box and his abilities are to there fullest. Jamal is to write a paper that is to be presented and turned in to Prof. Crowford with "of his won writing". with Crowfords keen scene of "looking for the errors" he finds that the name of the paper is the same as the mane of an article that Forrester wrought. As this goes on Jamal is taken off the basket ball team after the final game and is given the chose to rewrite the paper or leave the school. Have Jamal knowing this he goes to Forrester with the proposal of him going to school to defend his paper but with Forrester's phobia of leaving his house he leaves Jamal hanging on the edge of exaltation. Forrester over comes his fear and goes to the school to "read and paper of his" but to Crowfords surprise it was a paper that Jamal wrote. Crowford that ought that Jamal had no writing ability's but as Forester said," its not always who wrote it but how the reader reader reads it.

This was one of the best directed (Gus Van Sant) movies that I have seen in a long time. The plot of the story was a great setup for you to understand the way of how your race and change the options of many and how you use your abilities to there fullest. When the writer was writing (Mike Rich) this I wonder if he had any different ideas of how to write it because if he did I don't think that it would or could have the same impact on the viewers.

Churches are equipped with large cubicle-like structures called confessionals. These are in two compartments: in one of them the priest is seated; in the other the penitent person kneels. Between these two sections there is a grille through which they communicate with each other. When the priest is ready, he draws back the wooden cover over the grille and the penitent starts by saying: "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned". The priest's role includes that of healing. He therefore listens sympathetically and offers advice and encouragement to help the penitent to cope with his or her problems. After pronouncing absolution, the words of forgiveness, he will impose some task, perhaps that a particular prayer must be said a number of times, for example three Hail Marys, although it might actually involve repairing some of the damage done to a third party.

Every Catholic who is old enough to be considered responsible for his or her actions must make use of the sacrament of confession. Therefore every Catholic boy or girl faces the prospect of a first confession.

Is Capital Punishment right or wrong? Should we fight fire with fire? Putting to death the people who have committed certain extremely brutal crimes is a practice of ancient standing, but in the United States in the twentieth century, it has become a very controversial issue. Capital punishment was a part of American culture long before the United States was founded. According to James R. Acker in his book, "America's Experiment with Capital Punishment," he states, "nearly four centuries have passed, and over 18,000 people have been executed by lawful authority in the territorial U.S., since the earliest confirmed death sentence was carried out in 1608 in colonial Virginia" (5). Debate about the death penalty has been as persistent as the punishment itself. I feel that the death penalty is a right and effective way of punishment, which will make our society a safer place. However, there are many abolitionists that would strongly disagree with me. Both arguing parties have strong, intellectual forums that allow people to hear both sides extensively before coming to a conclusion. There are many different issues to focus on with death penalty and both sides of the argument has developed strong evidence to back up their position. The death penalty is a very complex issue that has to be viewed from different aspects in order to get the big picture. However, I believe capital punishment is an effective form of punishment and deterrence.

The selection process of the death penalty is quite

One element of the issue is the deterrent effect of capital punishment. The argument states that the death penalty does not deter murder. Dismissing capital punishment on that basis requires us to eliminate all prisons as well because they do not seem to be any more effective in the deterrence of crime. In the book, "America's Experiment with Capital Punishment," written by James R. Acker, states that, "the deterrence restrain others than the convicted from doing in the future what he did in the past. He is not punished merely to deter others but if his deserved punishment deters others, it helps repay for the harm the crime done to the social order" (140). Others stated that, "States which do have the death penalty have higher crime rates than those that don't, that a more severe punishment only inspires more severe crimes." I must point out that every state in the union is different. These differences include the populations, number of cities, and the crimes rates. Strongly urbanized states are more likely to have higher crime rates than states that are more rural, such as those that lack capital punishment. The states that have capital punishment have it because of their high crime rate, not the other way around. So, capital punishment is very capable of deterring murder if we allow it to, but our legal system is so slow and inefficient, criminals are able to stay several steps ahead of us. Several reforms must be made in our justice system so the death penalty can cause a positive effect.

Racist of Not?

One of the most controversial books of all time is Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn uses the "N" word over 00 times and has been banned from many public schools all over the United States. Many people have asked the question, is Huck Finn a racist book that portrays negative views of African Americans? Also many wonder whether Mark Twain was a racist man. Although there are many racists comments in Mark Twains book "Huckleberry Finn," the book isn't racist because it shows multi-cultural races being friends, it aids the reader into understanding the book and it also portrays how life was really back in the 1th century.

Huck Finn shows how life was back in the early 1800's and how black people were viewed. This is shown when Mark Twain makes Jim superstitious about bad luck brought by the snakeskin and making him thinking he was encountered by the devil when it was really Tom playing a trick. Many people think of blacks as dumb and gullible when that isn't true at all. A quote that shows this in the book is when Aunt Sally asks Huck whether anyone is hurt or not and he says, "no mum, just killed a nigger." White people back then portrayed blacks as only being slaves and nothing else and Mark Twain did a good job of showing that. Although this book shows how life was back then the racist comments are in the book to help the reader understand the book better.

In Huckleberry Finn there are many parts that are in the book to give it appeal. Some examples of this are when Jim talks using his southern accent. People may interpret this as Mark Twain making black people look dumb but he actually is giving the book character. The "N" word is used over 00 times and this also gets the reader to understand and like the book better. Huck Finn isn't a racist book because it is showing how life was back then and it also shows blacks and whites being friends.

Huck and Jim become friends in Huck Finn and this shows that Mark Twain isn't a racist. When Huck ran away to Jackson's island and he saw that Jim was there to he was glad that he had someone to be with even if it was a black person. Also, when Huck and Jim get lost in the fog and they both are very happy they found each other again, that shows the bond between them. When Jim sees Huck he says, "Goodness gracious, is dat you, Huck…It's too good for true, honey it's too good for true." There are many parts of Huck Finn that prove the book isn't racist and one includes the multi-cultural relationships in the book.

Even though there are many racist comments in Huck Finn this book isn't racist because it shows different races being friends, the racist comments make the book better, and it portrays life as it really was. Many parts of the book prove that Mark Twain isn't racist including characters' actions, plots of the book and quotes. One must realize that this novel and the author of this novel are not racist, and the purpose of this story is to actually prove black equality. Twain does a very amazing job of bringing out society's views of blacks and was an exceptional writer.

Response to "The Jilting of Granny Wetherall"

I believe this short story is about Granny Weatherall's feelings and emotions during death. Its purpose is to stimulate intellect into the reader's mind about life and death. Many have experienced the feeling of dying grandparents; some may have been present during the last breath. The story's purpose is to bring her feelings and emotion to life. The essence for coping with life is what I grasped from this short story.

Throughout the story, I asked myself a few questions. First, what is the meaning and purpose of my life? I discovered that it is not important to "Major in Minor" things. In other words, don't sweat the small stuff. Life is much to short.

Secondly, how do I cope with adversity and disappointment in my life? I pray and ask God for guidance. I believe all is possible through God. Knowing God helps those whom help themselves, yet nothing would be possible without having him in my life. We can give it our all, but if it is not God's will for you to accomplish a given task, then you must learn to accept second best or disappoint. Odds are, you will be stronger than before.

Thirdly, how do I survive and adjust to painful life experiences? I know it could always be worse. I could be taking fire from an enemy during battle, or trying to save multiple lives without adequate supplies to sustain life. I could be held captive in a P.O.W camp in a foreign land for seven years. There are some people in this world who are experiencing these as you and I read and write during these few hours of class.

I asked myself these questions while reading because Granny had a sense of immediacy in her thoughts, feelings, memories. She reviews her life remembering the important happenings, disappointments, crises and achievements. Her character is vivid and rich in detail. She is a very hard worker. She worked as a farmer, doctor, and veterinarian, raising her children alone with courage.

The most humiliating moment in the story is when she is left alone at the altar by George. She will never forgive him because of the painful humiliation he has caused her. She still remembers the feelings on that day and now it consumes her every being. Many passages give insight to light and dark images. Images of the past are the good images (light) and current images in her mind are (dark). Granny's past life is clear, yet her current life is dark and unexplainable to her. Granny's most significant experiences are the past presently occupying her mind.

This story reminded me of life's importance. How you should live each and every new day as if it were your last. We should focus and pay mind to the gifts God has given us, for each day is a gift, that is why we call it the present.

Bacon's Rebellion is probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of Jamestown's history. This rebellion was more of a power struggle between two narcissistic leaders than a celebrated fight against tyranny. The innermost figures in Bacon's Rebellions were antithesis. Many historians have discovered various facts as well as a plethora of causes, all of which led to opposition in the Virginia colony.

In 1676, Virginians, led by Nathanial Bacon, revolted against Sir William Berkeley's corrupt and oppressive government. Ironically, the two opposing figures, Berkeley and Bacon, were cousins by marriage. The rebellion started when Bacon's followers, former indentured servants, accused Berkeley of not protecting them from Native American invasions. Apparently, they were upset that Berkeley did not protect them from a recent Native American raid so they took matters into their own hands.

Bacon led a series of unauthorized attacks against all of the Native American tribes in the area. Following his attacks, Bacon was elected to the newly formed House of Burgesses.

Berkeley was in charge of calling the House into assembly and when Bacon arrived he had him arrested. After his release, he and his men marched on Jamestown to force Berkeley to allow them to continue their war against the Native Americans, which resulted in many reforms being made. Berkeley was not strong enough to raise an army against Bacon so he fled. He later returned to recapture Jamestown and declare Bacon and his men dissenters and traitors. In retaliation, Bacon wrote his "Declaration of the People" which proclaimed that Berkeley was corrupt and protected the Native Americans for his own benefits. After a few minor fights, Bacon once again took control of Jamestown but he was afraid that he could not hold it for long so he set the town on fire. Unfortunately, he died suddenly and the rebellion ended from lack of guidance. Berkeley then retook the colony and hanged the major participants in the rebellion.

Buy cheap Bacon's Rebellion term paper

Numerous occurrences led to Bacon's Rebellion. First, following the initial Native American invasion, Bacon and his men retaliated upon the wrong tribe. They ended up killing chiefs of friendly tribes rather than those that attacked them. This upset Berkeley who was trying to maintain friendly relationships with all of the surrounding tribes. Additionally, the Virginians were upset over high taxes and low tobacco prices, while farmers in other places made much more. There was resentment by the small and unemployed farmers against the wealthy farmers that received special privileges from Berkeley.

This episode in Jamestown's history was obviously needed. It was time for a change in policies, laws, and economy. It could have been prevented, however, if the many causes were corrected before they escalated beyond control. This rebellion can also be looked at from a different view. It can be questioned whether or not this was a fight over governmental issues or if it was just a personal discrepancy between two egotistical men.

Please note that this sample paper on Bacon's Rebellion is for your review only. The West, Britain and America in particular, are used to lying, spoken by Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan. By this statement made by Iraqi Vice-President, we all know that the relations between America and Iraq have been awful for a while. In the news articles "Iraq Urges Arabs to Hit Back if U.S. Attacks (by Nadim Ladki)", "Portugal PM Cautions Bush on Iraq (by George Gedda)", "Powell says its too late for Iraq to negotiate (CNN Headline)", and "White House Can Fight Terror, Iraq (ABC Headline)" you can see even more on how awful the relations have been.

"Iraq Urges Arabs to Hit Back if U.S." By Nadim Ladki

This article sides with the Arabs more than the Americans. By addressing what the Iraqi have to say not just the Americans Nadim gives a bigger picture of what is going on. It talks about what Bush wants to do and how the Iraqi government really has to say. For example Iraq views the United States and Britain as the aggressors and how they are spreading lies on Iraqs capability to produce weapons of mass destruction. It made good points on how America are the aggressors by stating how America lied and why they would.

"Portugal PM Cautions Bush on Iraq" By George Gedda

Order Custom Essay on American and Iraqi Relations

This article was good to see how another country viewed the situation between Iraq and America. The Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barosso told Bush that he should talk it out with global leaders first before attacking Iraq, since of the possibility of Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. Also one statement made by the Portuguese Prime Minister caught my attention At this very moment, where there are some global threats that have to have a global answer, we should act globally,. This also meant the PM was not concerned just for the Americans but the world. It also had some brief things to say about the CIA making the case ready for military action to oust Saddam Hussein.

"Powell says its too late for Iraq to negotiate" From a CNN Headline

This piece of new made a few really good points. One of them was a quote of Powell If they have no weapons, what are they hiding?". They don't really need to hide anything if they haven't any weapons but now Powell said it was too late for Iraq to negotiate the terms for the return of international weapons inspectors. He also mentioned that the time for them to respond was yeas ago. It also focuses on the Bush and UN meeting and stated how Bush started to convince them about the issue.

"White House Can Fight Terror, Iraq" From an ABC Headline

This was the worst. It didn't even give another government's side of the story. It just talked about how the Americans can take on terrorism and Iraq at the same time. I believed the Americans were just having a war on terrorism not Iraq. Furthermore its tone was that all the United Nations was on the side of the Americans. It only had one sentence defending Iraq. This is the material they feed to brain wash the country in to believing that America is correct before they know the full story.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."Franklin D. Roosevelt. These words have shown how fear has constricted my life in such a way that I never had the chance to accept life's thrills. As long as fear is in control, I worry that I will never enjoy my life to the fullest. Once I was a truck driver for the most successful trucking businesses in Canada, but due to fear, my world has turned into a giant ball of anxiety. Fear, itself, that has negatively affected my life by causing me to lose my job, my girlfriend, and contact with both my family and friends. They were all affected directly by my phobias.

My job was the first thing to go. I worked for K&G Trucking, which was the best trucking agency in the Southeastern region of Canada until one day I had a major accident that left me with severe injuries and two weeks the hospital. When I was released, I was in good health; at least that is what I thought. As I walked slightly outside the hospital, the sight of all the cars made me vomit perpetually. It became so bad that the doctors did not know what to do, so they tool me to a psychiatric facility. There the psychiatrist diagnosed me with amaxophobia (fear of automobiles). That day marked the beginning of the end of my existence.

Next my girlfriend, Cray, began to turn against me. My friend Eric had informed her of my foolish fear. At first, she was willing to assist me in overcoming my fears. Cray attempted to trick me numerous times into going places just to get me out of the house; it never worked. Since she worked for K&G as well, she rarely missed work. I saw less and less of her as she put in overtime to make ends meet. As the days passed, I could tell that her interest was fading. On routine, I sat in my rocking chair in anticipation of her arrival, but I suppose this particular day seemed longer than others. I waited for hours until I began to panic. I got so distressed that I walked to my friend's house to find comfort, but instead, I found Eric and Cray together. Then I knew where all that overtime was spent.

Lastly, the rest of my days began to deteriorate. Contact with family and friends faded. Days grew to weeks and weeks grew to days. By this time my fears grew worse. Soon ambulophobia (walking) and agyrophobia (crossing the street) began to take affect. My mom often came to check on me. She was in disbelief that I could be scared of this many things but I insisted were true. I remember one point in time she prepared me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Not thinking twice about it, I took a bite of it. Next thing I know I getting up from the floor. She explained to me how I bit the sandwich and fainted. Oh great! Now I have arachibutyrophobia (peanut butter sticking to roof of mouth).

Do my essay on fear CHEAP !

During my journey, I have had several opportunities to go and do what the brave dare not partake. By only wondering what it would have been like to pursue my career, does not take the place of the actual reality. Now I realize how irrational my phobias are and what fear can do to one's life. I am enslaved to my imagination and bound by fear. I am afraid. Fear has constricted my life.

Wisdom

The Proverbs tell us many things about wisdom that every person, believer or not, can benefit from reading and understanding the message of the Proverbs. Proverbs tells us that wisdom is a woman who calls out to the simple and lacking in understanding, she calls out so that they may gain prudence and understanding. She is a polite hostess who invites us to join her in a feast and sets before us a table of plenty of meat and wine and understanding. Her house is beautiful and supported by seven pillars because she built it.

She speaks to us and invites us with her words that are right, true, and worthy. She is never wicked or perverse. She and her words are more precious than any gem or jewel in all of the world for she offers life to those who will hear her. They say you are the company you keep, if you keep wisdom in your company then you will begin to be like her with prudence and understanding because wisdom also keeps the company of prudence and understanding. She continuously offers counsel and judgment to those who will hear her words. Proverbs tells us that wisdom was also the 1st born of the Lord and was there at the creation of the world. She has always been with God because God is wise. To ignore wisdom would be to fall into folly and death. To accept wisdom is to gain life and riches beyond that which the world could ever give. Every man should hear the call of wisdom and listen to her. She is good and true and will guide any who listen to her away from the ways of the perverse and wicked, out of death, and into righteousness and life.

The Proverbs also tell us about the loud adulteress Folly. She is a wicked woman who wants to deceive men and lead them into death. She is the opposite of Wisdom and her enemy because they both battle for the simple and those who lack understanding.

Order Custom Essay on Wisdom and Folly

Folly is a loud woman who is undisciplined, crude, and without knowledge. She yells to people in the streets and bids them to come into her house to dine on a feast. She lays a feast before those who listen to her, but her food must be eaten in secret and the water she offers is stolen. She claims there is no price for the feast, yet the men who listen to her have to pay the price of death.

She is an adulteress who tempts men into wickedness and sin. She prowls the street corners at night. She approaches men dressed like a prostitute and she has a crafty intent. Her feet never stay at home and she is always about trying to bring men into sin. She offers men her bed covered with Egyptian linens and perfumes. She appeases to men, promising them good things, but only delivering loss, death, and destruction. Proverbs tells us that the men who listen to the adulteress and go with her are, "like an ox going to the slaughter or the deer stepping into the noose till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life." (Pro 7-)

Folly is not a creation of God but a creation of man, for god only keeps in his company Wisdom and he detests folly. Those who choose folly choose death, and those who choose wisdom choose eternal life with God.

In the story Oedipus the King, the main character Oedipus, is given away by his parents because of the bad prophecies that were given by the oracles. In the story Oedipus takes the kingdom of Thebes after he solves the Sphinx's riddle. Throughout Oedipus's rule, he is in constant search of his parents and who they are. Oedipus will stop at nothing to find out who his parents are even if it ruins his life. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the "blindness and sight", that the author Sophocles has put in this story through his characters.

About halfway through the story Oedipus sends messengers out to get a person who supposedly can see the visions of Apollo. When Theresias comes in, Oedipus is taken aback by that fact that Theresias is physically blinded. However the chorus says that he is still wise, and sees the visions of Apollo. Oedipus becomes very angry at Theresias after he starts accusing Oedipus of killing King Laius. Oedipus then remarks back at him and says that Theresias is not only blind in the eyes but in the mind and ears as well.

Oedipus is determined to find who his parents are, despite the advice from everyone, the chorus, Queen Jocasta, and Theresias. Oedipus's tragic flaw, is the fact that he is ignorant and very pompous. He doesn't believe anything that he hears, and thinks that nothing can go wrong. He's the King of Thebes, he saved the city from the Sphinx hoe can anything go wrong. In these ways does it make Oedipus blind. He is completely oblivious that he actually killed his own father at the crossroads and that he did in fact marry Queen Jocasta whose his mother/wife.

Sophocles uses symbolism in Oedipus the Ling. Whereas the blindness as we know it someone cannot physically see, with Oedipus it means that he is mentally blind. The only time where Oedipus is physically blind is when he gouges out his own eyes after he sees Queen Jocasta dead, and after he finally realizes that he killed his father and marry his mother. The whole time through the story, he had to keep going no matter what anyone said, and when he got close to knowing and more and more people were telling him to stop, he wouldn't. Theresias on the other hand was blind he could not see the people in front of him, yet he could see the things that Oedipus could not. Theresias could se Apollo's visions, and he knew the whole time that Oedipus was the killer of Laius. He tried to warn Oedipus that it would cause him misery, and that's what Theresias saw, he saw what it would do to Oedipus if he found out who his parents were.

In this essay I have discussed the symbolism of "blindness and sight" of Theresias and Oedipus. By reading this essay you the reader should be able recognize that theres not only one form of blindness, people can be blinded by many facts of like that they don't want to hear. People can block out the reality and making there own stuff up, this is a form of blindness. This causes the downfall of our character Oedipus, when he doensn't realize what the consequences will be of finding his parents. Eventually Oedipus becomes physically blind because of his mental blindness. Oedipus must now come to grips with reality, and deal with his new self-inflicted handicap.

Please note that this sample paper on Oedipus Rex is for your review only. Macbeth

Content Questions

Act I, Scene i

1. The play commences in the midst of thunder and lightning, a common pathetic fallacy used to represent evilness and impiety. The witches further promote the theme of sin and immorality by their mere presence. They help to establish an eerie atmosphere by their paradox verses such as "Fair is foul, and foul is fair…" (Kortes ). Hence the setting is very creepy and uncanny due to supernatural presence of the witches and the gloomy surroundings.

Custom Essays on Macbeth's deterioration of conscious

. The witches convey important information about the outcome of the civil war and where and how they plan to encounter Macbeth. This information also informs the reader of the power the witches possess and how their minds function.

Macbeth is described as an honorable hero who has saved his King various times from the mouth of danger. He is portrayed as a strong, virtuous man possessing both the determination and confidence needed to defeat his enemies. The soldier in simple terms depicted Macbeth as being invincible; a force that was too powerful for traitors such as Macdonwald and the Thane of Cawdor to face. "…but all's too weak; …Till he faced the slave;" (Kortes 1)

It is quite evident that Duncan is a very trusting, generous and grateful man. This is obvious as he does not view Macbeth's bravery as an act that must be bestowed upon the king but on the contrary he sees it as an act of loyalty that Macbeth chose to do. He is thus very grateful and generous in his praise. He also seems to be a fair ruler as he rewards both his generals for their loyalty.

Banquo views the witches' prophecies skeptically as he does not trust their authority and senses the evil that revolves around them. He does not appreciate the witches' paradox and is dissatisfied with their account of his future. This is perhaps another reason for his cynical beliefs. On the other hand, Macbeth is greatly influenced by what the witches have to say perhaps due to the fact he wants so badly for the prophecies to be true. His greed and ambition persuade him to trust the Weird Sisters and he is further convinced by the fulfillment of the first two prophecies.

When Macbeth is told of his future as King, his conscience immediately starts to break down as he thinks of murdering Duncan right away. This proves that he is in a state of confusion as he struggles with what is right and what is wrong, and the consequences of his actions. The reader realizes that though Macbeth may be very strong on the outside, in reality his character is very weak to temptation. Even at this point, Macbeth seems to be a good man as he is horrified by his own ideas.

Macbeth's asides reveals a side to his character that even he is not familiar with. He faces the conflict of man vs. self as he struggles to realize how far he is willing to go to achieve his ambitions. In the end, he ends up being so confused that he decides to leave his future to fate.

Please note that this sample paper on Macbeth's deterioration of conscious is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Macbeth's deterioration of conscious, we are here to assist you. Order your How memory is stored on a computer paper at affordable prices with essay writing service!

Memory is used to store both programs and data instructions. Program instructions are coded data which tell the computer to do something, represented by the binary code (1's and 0's). Data is simply information to be used by the program, i.e. two numbers to be added together. A central processing unit (CPU) gets instructions and/or data from memory, decodes the instructions, and performs a sequence of programmed tasks. We need something to decode the memory and determine what represents instructions and what represents data; this is the CPU's purpose. The CPU acts as the brain of the computer. It can not think on its own though, it can only perform tasks programmed on the computer.

First the computer must fetch the instructions from the memory. Then it has to decode the instruction. Finally it performs the indicated operations. These tasks can be performed by using input and output devices. Example of input devices are Keyboards, Mouses, and Software. An example of an output device is a printer.

A Central Processing Unit has a Control Unit, Arithmetic Logic Unit, and Registers. The control unit decodes the programmed instructions, has a program counter which contains the location of the next instruction to be executed, and has a status register which monitors the execution of instructions and keeps track of overflows, carries, borrows, etc. A Reduced Instruction Set Machine or RISC, executes a simple set of instructions very fast. A Complex Instruction Set or CISC has a powerful set of instructions which allows many complex operations to be represented as a single instruction.

The Arithmetic Logic Unit carries out the instructions decoded by the control unit. Older microprocessors had special registers called accumulators which had to be used for math calculations. Modern microprocessors such as the 68000 have general-purpose registers and do not have accumulators.

Buy cheap How memory is stored on a computer term paper

There are two types of ways you can store memory, ROM and RAM. ROM or Read Only Memory is non-volatile, meaning all bits can be read, but no bits can be changed; does not erase when the computer is turned off. RAM or Random Access Memory is volatile, which means all bits can be read and or written; usually erases when your computer is turned off.

Computers use the binary number system to store data. The binary code is a two number system. The reason computers use the base- system is because it makes it a lot easier to implement them with current electronic technology. You could wire up and build computers that operate in base-10, but they would be fiendishly expensive right now. On the other hand, base- computers are relatively cheap. So computers use binary numbers, and therefore use binary digits in place of decimal digits. The word bit is a shortening of the words Binary digit. Whereas decimal digits have 10 possible values ranging from 0 to , bits have only two possible values 0 and 1. 8 bits equal one byte.

The Most Democratic Voting System

I personally believe the most democratic voting system is in fact not the system of the "most democratic" United States but the majority vote we use in Canada. The United States voting system goes by an electoral vote which is not necessarily the majority vote. This does not always mean that the person with the most votes gets elected. The Presidential election is decided by the combined results of 51 State elections and not one nation wide vote. The individual citizen's vote is important to the outcome of each state election but not the election of the president since you vote only helps decide which candidate receives your state's electoral vote. In this case of the 000 presidential election, with Bush versus Gore, Bush was elected President despite the fact that the majority of voters did not vote for Bush but instead a third party Nader won in the state of Florida. If Nader had not run in Florida Gore would have won in Florida and thus would have won Presidency. Nadar is known as a spoiler. Spoilers are a frequent problem in the Electoral College because most states use a plurality voting system where the candidate with the most votes wins the electoral vote. as you can see this voting system was very un democratic since the candidate who was really most popular lost because of a spoiler. Situations like this convince me that the American system of voting although it seems democratic really does not represent a democratic system, since the candidate the majority of the people liked was not elected.

This information leads to my conclusion that the Canadian system of voting is the most democratic although it does not represent each province individually it represents the majority. It is true that if the majority of people in Ontario vote for candidate "X" and no one votes for candidate "x" in Newfound land, it is more likely that candidate "X" will be elected since Ontario's population is much larger than the population of Newfoundland. This doesn't seem fair to the Newfoundlanders who were voting for a candidate based on their personal needs. This system is indeed fair since the seats of the House of Commons are delegated by the population in each province; this ensures that a place like Newfoundland will have representatives for their point of view. The seats in the House of Commons insure that the concerns of smaller provinces such as Newfound Land are heard by the Prime Minister. It is fair that a larger province with a larger population will have more representatives than a smaller province since the since the concerns coming from these seats in the house represent a larger body of people. I believe that any way you break it down each citizen of the country should have one vote that counts equally among all people of all provinces. This way everyone has an equal say as to who will become the prime minister; and a true majority vote is used. I believe that because of this the Canadian voting system is most democratic.

From the onset of Gullivers Travels, Swift creates for us a seemingly competent character and narrator in Gulliver. In his account we learn how his adventures have changed him and his perception of people, for the central theme of this story is how human nature and reason reflect society.

On the whole, Gulliver is a very frustrating character to deal with for a number of reasons. For example, hes not steady; this unsteadiness as a narrator leads us to question the validity of what Gulliver tells us. This means that we have to be on our guard against what he says, and even though hes our guide, we cant follow him everywhere, which is just what Swift wanted. Gulliver makes many apologies for himself and his actions and puts us the reader emotionally involved in the story. Gulliver seems to direct a good deal of hostility toward us, creating a tinge of hostility back at him. Ultimately, Gulliver works as a narrator because we can relate to him and as a result find him engaging. We too can jump from emotion to emotion, but in the long run, Swift is not attempting to create an Everyman. This Gulliver is not, by any means a wholly allegorical character, but as much an individual as the next person. In certain ways, Gulliver proves to be more resilient than the average man by managing to survive the disaster shipwrecks and people so foreign they might as well be aliens. Still in other ways Gulliver is a naïve person, bereft of decency and consideration.

Gulliver is an entirely credible and probable person at the same time that he is precisely the person to be the instrument for Swifts satire. In his incredible circumstances, Gulliver shows himself to be very resourceful and observant of his surroundings. With that he changes in relation to the places he visits and the events that befall him as he voyages. As a traveler in Lilliput, hes careful in his observations and complete in his descriptions. Occupied as he is with the surface of things, we see Gullivers problem of not seeing with eyes wide open. Gulliver wanes in his judgment of character as he becomes more and more narrow-minded as the story progresses. So do we still see him as a good, all-around type of guy?

Lest we forget that he does get knocked around while hes traveling, a primary reason for his shift in attitude. In Lilliput he seems to be eminently fair-minded compared to the cunning, vindictive, petty Lilliputians. Literally a giant in their land, Gulliver never takes unfair advantage of his size in his dealing with them. Though theyre violent with him, he never retaliates. However in Brobdingnag, Gulliver appears Lilliputian in more ways than one. Still, his size is a dire problem. He is frequently injured, as the kings dwarf takes out his frustrations on Gulliver, but the latter is an improvement from his job as a freak at village fairs.

Order Custom Essay on gullivers travels

Ultimately, Gulliver has a hard time keeping it together under the strain of repeated attacks on his ego, and in his dealings with the Brobdingnagian king, Gulliver appears as nasty and cruel as the Lilliputians themselves. This is his tone when he returns to England, an angry man who thinks himself more a Brobdingnagian than anything else.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God to all of mankind. In Timothy it speaks of the Bible being "God-breathed". This goes for both th Old Testament and the New Testament.

Many books in the Old Testament claim that they are from God. Throughout time this part of the Bible has been considered "God's Word". The first five books of the OT are referred to as "The Law". The books Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy all make explicit claim to inspiration. Genesis, by virtue of association, carries the same divine authority.

Throughout the Old Testament, the prophets refer to the Law of Moses, and Moses' voice was heeded as God's. God continually tested the people of Israel in following the law.

Another claim to inspiration was the fact that many later prophets of the Old Testament refer to the prophecies of the earlier prophets. God spoke to Daniel through the writings of Jeremiah (Compare Daniel with Jeremiah 511). One of the true tests of whether or not a book is inspired by God is by the prophecies and fulfillment of those prophecies contained in the writings. There are hundreds of examples of prophecies in the Old Testament being fulfilled in the New Testament.

Custom Essays on Bible is inspired Word of God

In the New Testament, Christ is the key to the book being inspired by God. He promised that the Holy Spirit would direct the apostles into "all truth", the fulfillment resulting in the New Testament.

The Bible being inspired by God brings up the issue of it's infallibility. Being that it is God's Word, and being from God, it can not be in err. God is without error and He can not lie. It is important when discussing the infallibility of the Bible that you take into consideration the character of God.

One way to see the Bible being inspired is by the many characteristics of the people He chose to have document His Word. He used people from every walk of life, with many different personality traits. God did not isolate one type of person with one type of opinion. Through this we can see that although many people of many walks of life may have different views on God, everything that is written is in harmony. In today's society, you may take a controversial issue and discuss it with people from different classes, cultures, and ways of life and get totally opposing ideas and opinions about this certain issue. This is important to think about because it shows how God is able to keep His Word true. It is also relevant to point out here the 1500 years that spanned the writings of the Bible. If you take 0 great classical writings from any certain era that again discuss controversial issues, you will probably get very many different opinions concerning the issues. Again, the Bible says the same thing in harmony through every verse, every chapter, through many different individuals and many cultural differences. The Bible, standing alone as the only source of comparison against itself, is enough evidence to show the infallibility of the writings it contains. This doesn't even mention the historical and secular writings that can also line up with this.

Please note that this sample paper on Bible is inspired Word of God is for your review only. The technique of paper making was intoduced into Japan from China during the early seventh century. When the Japanese began making paper, it improved, because it was made sturdy and soft and it didnt rip when it was handled. The name of the paper was washi, and that unique type of paper inspired many forms of cultural creativity, among them origami.

The date of the origination of origami is unknown. However, a record was kept of the letters and wrapping paper that were first folded. During the rise of the samurai society, the art of paper folding for practical and formal purposes rose as well. An example of the way origami was once used can still be seen in the noshi, a decoration of folded red and white paper attached to a gift.

Origami that is made to look like a crane or boat, for instance, is retorted as origami for entertainment. However, They may have been used in the past for the purpose of taking the peoples mind off of their illnesses. They began to be made sometime around the beginning of the Edo period which shared the time of an age in which mass-produced, low-priced paper came to be widely used among the people.

During the Genroku era, origami of the crane and many varieties of boats used as designs on clothing became fashionable, and they were also replicated abundantly in Ukiyoe prints. Origami became wide-spread and used more during this time.

Cheap Custom Essays on "The History of Origami"

About a hundred years later, books and such were published that were devoted exclusively to origami, which created a differeniated and mature form of origami. They were not only a form of childrens amusement, but because they were also intended for adults, many of these origami were difficult to make and incorporated many complicated steps.

The technique of creating paper was introduced into Europe in the twelfth century producing a distinct form of origami. However, the Europeans didnt use the origami quite as much as the Japanese did.

During the Meiji period, origami was a regular class for kindergardeners and children attending elemetary school. Japans origami was greatly influenced by Friedrich Wilhelm. August Fröbel a mid-nineteenth century German teacher had a method of deriving his teaching from European traditional origami, which further developed into folding to make various geometrical shapes, and was widely adopted particularly in the Japanese kindergartens.

During the Meiji period alone, many new origami projects were created by unknown people. However because origami required following exact directions, origami was not well received during the Taishou period, a time when educators preferred putting importance on originality and creativity. Origami was criticized as lacking these qualities. However, braced by a long history, origami once again regained its popularity.

Not only are there now many imaginative and novel origami creations, but its educational value and great potential have been also reconsidered and recognized. Many adults these days do origami as an everyday hobby. There are now many origami associations that have been formed overseas by people who specialize in origami.

In 18, the US Dept. of Energy made a projection to let people of the world know that the US is a main producer in the problem and other countries are trying to help the issue. (doc.) Other countries and companies have taken steps to help the industry be environmentally friendly. John Browne of British Petroleum decided to take the step and invest in creating solar energy instead of burning oil for energy. In 18, Toyota started off a Hybrid car to help the environment and since then, many manufacturers of cars and other transportation machines have done the same. Denmark now generates most of its electricity from wind power. (doc.5) In 17 there was an environmental meeting about "Greenpeace." The members of Greenpeace meeting pin-pointed several problems and ways to fix them. Many countries are switching to "Green freeze" which is a mixture propane and isobutene which is not as harmful to the environment. (doc.7)

These are the global problems that have risen since the 1st century because of industrialization and as well as how we as a world are doing something to stop them.

Hrothgar's Speech and Plot Connections

The plot of Beowulf can be looked at in three parts. These three parts consist of Beowulf killing Grendel, then Beowulf killing Grendel's mother, and finally with Beowulf being defeated by the dragon. Hrothgar's speech at the celebration following Beowulf's defeat of Grendel, serves not only as a foreshadowing and warning to Beowulf, but it also seems to mirror the three parts of the plot.

The beginning of Hrothgar's speech pays tribute to "Almighty God" and how he empowers some men with enormous physical strength and wisdom in order that they may have a "happy life". Hrothgar warns Beowulf, in his speech, about taking these powers for granted, having too much confidence, and of the limitations of mortal man. Hrothgar goes on to give an example of his strength at the height of his power in his speech. Hrothgar begins this part of the speech by reverting back to his youthful days as a warrior when he protected the Danes "…in wartime with spear and sword against constant assaults by many tribes" (46).

This part of Hrothgar's speech corresponds to the first part of the plot in which Beowulf kills Grendel. Beowulf is able to kill Grendel without the aid of any weapon and uses his bare hands to rip off the claw of the monster. Hence, Beowulf has been blessed with great physical strength. As Hrothgar did, Beowulf rises to glory and becomes famous throughout the Dane territory.

The second part of the plot is concerned with Grendel's mother seeking revenge for the death of her son. As Hrothgar grieves over the attack by her on one of his men, Beowulf vows, "I guarantee you she will not get away. She'll have nowhere to flee to" (7). This confidence that Beowulf expresses in his ability to kill Grendel's mother is comparable to Hrothgar's implications in his speech that, as a young warrior, he became overconfident and believed that his "enemies had faded from the face of the earth" (46). Hrothgar warns, "Do not give way to pride" (46).

But Beowulf's confidence seems to fade somewhat as he sizes up the competition for the battle. The lake, containing the underwater cave, for which the battle with Grendel's mother will take place, is described as "bloodshot" and "infested with all kinds of reptiles" (8). Perhaps a decline in Beowulf's confidence can be evidenced by the choice he makes to wear armor and use a sword in contrast to his previous battle with Grendel in which he felt he could handle the monster without his war-gear.

The third part of the plot consists of an aging Beowulf whose land is being stalked by an angry dragon. Beowulf, taking on the dragon, is unable to go it alone. In this final part of the plot, his mortal body, wracked with age, fails him. To slay the dragon requires help of one of his faithful followers. Hrothgar's earlier speech predicts Beowulf's death "Your piercing eye will dim and darken; and death will arrive; dear warrior, to sweep you away" (

Many black men traveled oversees to join the French Army where they learned hand to hand combat and received pilot licenses. Eugene Bullard and Bessie Coleman were the pioneers of black pilots, and the inspiration of the Tuskegee Airfield. On January 11th, 14 was the first time in history that air power won the surrender of a ground target, and this was due to the strike from the th Squadron. At this time in 14, the black Army pilots still had not earned respect from many of their white counterparts and much of the American nation. By the end of 145, the th, nd, and 100th, and 01st, had a total of 4 targets destroyed, and 8 damaged targets making them very successful. They had more individual missions than there white counterparts, whom were sent home after 50 missions, some black pilots flew over 60. The airmen became known as the 'Red Wings' because they painted their wings and nose the color bright red. This was to distinguish themselves from other American fighter units. They began to become escorts for bomber planes, and were considered 'angels' by the bomber pilots. Not once did they loose a bomber plane during the time they escorted them. Once the war ended, after the surrender of Germany and Japan, the th, 100th, and 01st Squadrons returned home.

Many of the white officers that returned home were greeted in the street with cheers, hugs, and kisses from beautiful women. The scene was different when the black pilots and crewmen returned to the home front; America still did not recognize them as 'sufficient' combat pilots. Although many of the pilots received purple hearts, legion of merit, silver star, solider metal, flying cross, bronze star, and air metal and clusters. By the end of the war there were pilots that graduated from Tuskegee. The Tuskegee airmen not only opened the doors for black Americans, but they also told the nation that 'blacks aren't going to be looked down on any more.' The men stood proud and strong through all of the hatred, and riots that happened because of their participation in the American Armed Forces. Not only did they change history for America they changed history for the World; they protected our bomber planes that had targets to be destroyed. They were able to take out ground targets that prevented thousands of weapons to be deployed to the enemy. They looked prejudice and hatred in the eye and stepped on it. They proved to the America that blacks are not inferior, they are equal. Men of the th Fighter Squadron and of the nd Fighter Group, they were brave black men who had to endure the difficulties of pilot training and go on and win their wings against the forces of home-grown discrimination. It wasn't until November 6th, 18 that Tuskegee was honored as a historic site by the United States government. President Clinton approved Public Law 105-55, which established the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site at Morton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama, to commemorate and interpret the heroic actions of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen served their country proud and with open arms, even though they were not accepted the same way as the white pilots, they stood up for what they believed in and to make their families proud and honored.

Ann Marie Plane Colonial Intimacies Indian Marriage in Early New England

The author discusses the interactions between Indians and the English Colonists in Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, Plymouth, Connecticut, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard in the late 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. She focuses primarily on the vastly different understandings of conjugal union. For the Indians in the pre-colonial world the most important and enduring links between adult men and women were those of clan affiliation and kinship, whereas the English regarded marriage as the most important factor. In their view marriage and hence household and family mirrored the larger society in miniature. They feared that Native practices such as premarital sex, polygyny and easy divorce imposed a threat to destabilize the orderly communities central to the Puritan agenda.

I assume that Plane wants to reveal how intimate relationships not only reflected the influence of European colonialism in southeastern New England but actually shaped the progress of colonial dominance, helping to make and remake the regions cultures (pp. 111). De facto divisions between the marriages of Indians and the colonists "tended to heighten cultural barriers separating whites from others, laying the groundwork for racial rather than cultural meanings of Indianness" (p. 151). Since Indians appeared lacking family governance and household ideology which were closely linked to marriage for the English minds, they were seen as inferior, unassimilable people who should be subordinated.

This book is made up of many stories of interactions between Native Indians and European colonists. Plane uses an unusual set of Nantucket court records to show the impact of new marriage laws on the daily lives of Indian men and women. Unfortunately no written records from the Indian courts survived.

Furthermore travel narratives, missionary writings, diarists' musings, sermons and early histories complement the legal records that make up the backbone of her studies. Ann Marie Plane demonstrates a great skill in her elucidation of specific court cases. By doing so, she shows us the real tensions that existed within families, and between families and communities, in the different populations of early New England.

Scholarly reaction

Melanie Perreault criticizes that written records made by the English form the basis for her primary research. She states that "these cannot be seen as objective sources on an Indian perspective".

The review written by Nancy Shoemaker for the "Journal of American History" emphasizes that "marriage is used as a metaphor to naturalize political relationships, with New England cast as the husband taking Indian America for a wife". She zings that "Indians appear in the book more peripherally and dimly than the book's subtitle would suggest".

Finally, the review in the "American Historical Review" stresses that Plane only focuses on Massachusetts, thus omitting Rhode Island and Connecticut.

I enjoyed reading the book because it highlights so many stories of interactions between Native people and the Europeans. Thereby it seems to be lively and gives a good insight into the intimate lives of people at that time.
